I was able to drive up to Port Townsend yesterday to continue my “exploring” of the wonderful little town. The 2011 season of the Port Townsend Farmer Market kicked off at 9am. I was not able to arrive at 9am but I was able to get there by 10am and spent a couple of hours enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells as they all blended into the fabric of experience that made the event very special and enjoyable.

I met some friends who already live in Port Townsend and enjoyed walking around the market chatting with vendors and purchasing some of the local products. This visit I purchased some cheese from Mt. Townsend Creamery (Seastack and Red Alder) Some pastries from Pastry Design by Anca, and some bread from Pane d’ Amore. At home the pastries and bread were big winners with my teenagers. I hid the cheese =) I also enjoyed a wonderful cup of coffee from the Gypsy Coffeehouse.

The weather was cooperating on Saturday. It was quite breezy and chilly but there was no rain! As we move closer to summer I know the weather will continue to improve and that this market and others like it will continue to enjoy growing amounts of visitors. I was able to take some photographs which I am including here in this post. I know that I am not a great photographer but I hope you will get a idea of the market and what is available to you.

In the center of the market was a group of musicians who were playing for the enjoyment of all. I spend quite some time simply sitting on a bench and enjoying nothing more than listening to their music and people watching. Truly a wonderful way to spend a quiet Saturday in April.

Looking forward to going back to the farmers market later in the month to see what new produce and crafts will be available. If you are looking for a nice way to get out and explore Port Townsend I highly recommend you take the time to visit Port Townsend on a Saturday and take in the Farmers Market.

Need to know how to get there?

On Foot: Head up the steps from Haller Fountain downtown.  Go left from top of steps Market is 3 blocks away by following the road.

By Car: Take Water St. heading west from downtown to Kearney, head right on Lawrence. You can’t miss it.

This year the market will run April-October on Saturdays. There will be a Summer mid-day market on Wednesdays starting in June.

On April 2nd. there will be over 50 vendors, a goat parade, arts, crafts, music, and much more. Billed as the best Farmers Market West of Idaho ( I would of never guessed Idaho would have a better farmers market) The Port Townsend Farmers Market will have something for everyone. Port Townsend/Coupeville – Tide Cancellations 3/20
Low tides will cancel one or more sailings from Port Townsend and Coupeville in March. Please see our Tide Cancellations table for a complete list of affected dates and departures.

On Sunday, March 20, the 8:00am and 9:30am sailings from Port Townsend and the 8:45am and 10:15am sailings from Coupeville are cancelled due to tidal conditions. The 11:15am and 12:45pm sailings from Port Townsend have been adjusted to depart at 11:35am and 12:55pm. The 12 noon and 1:30pm sailings from Coupeville have been adjusted to depart at 12:15pm and 1:35pm.

Victorian Heritage Days are being held March 18th through March 20th 2011. Orchestrated by the Victorian Society in America Northwest Chapter.

The 2011 event will celebrate the the influence of the past on our present and future. Museums and historic homes will be open. There will be bus tours of Port Townsend, lectures on Understanding old buildings and Weatherizing old buildings will be given by Kevin Palo. Fashion show along with historic clothing presentation. and much more.

Starting Friday at 11am and ending on Sunday after the Heads Held High Victorian Posture and clothing event. Port Townsend will be busy this weekend. For a complete list of activities here is a link to the schedule.
